Meet in The Middle

Often times the most important aspects about us are what no one has ever put words to and the things that need to be said out loud remain hidden within the deepest parts of us.

Creed and I were able to use this project as a means to further our understanding of each other and of ourselves. What this project entailed was one person sat in one tunnel and told stories about their childhood while the other sat in the adjacent tunnel and those drew stories as they were narrated to them.

What began as simple water tunnels, came to take on the meeting figuratively and literally of “meeting in the middle” the location acknowledges that it is impossible to fully know a person as we might like to but it proved and a genuine act of empathy to attempt to step into the crucial parts of their lives.

It was incredible to try to depict big concepts like someone's understanding of God, their dreams as a child and the first time they felt fear.

It was also interesting to see how they depicted your experiences and life story.

It is incredible how art can be used to cross even the solidest of walls and leave an echo long after the original intent has been fulfilled. I love art that brings people together. This truly was an exercise of meeting in the middle, vulnerability and the truthfulness that is required to make any relationship work.
