Once upon a time

Once upon a time is an animation about a little girl growing up, following in the footsteps of her older siblings, and getting to the point where she must make her own footprints for others to follow.

Inspired by my experience of living on my own my senior year of High School I wanted it to depict both the joy and also trepidation of growing up. God has a way of using life to compel us to make steps we would have otherwise been too comfortable to take.

Process
Everyone leaves a mark and we can all point to the person in whose footprints we followed the most at any given season in life. Each of my siblings played one such roll in my life at one point or another. The hope that the character finds in the story is that at the moment when the footprints have grown too far apart for her to jump to and she is unwilling to take her own step, she sees that her siblings have indeed not left her and have been cheering her on all along.

Her own footprints are actually the combination of her siblings unique designs, each of them containing elements that correlate with their personality and all of them containing a cross at the center and a dove at various stages of flight.
